Heating and cooling needs account for the largest share of energy consumption and CO2 emissions in buildings in Europe, not least within the residential sector which is still very reliant on fossil fuels. Transitioning to electrified integrated systems powered by renewable energy is essential for achieving carbon neutrality and a net-zero economy. With this in mind, the European projects ECHO, BEST-Storage, Hystore and ThumbsUP aim to optimise the potential of modular thermal energy storage (TES) solutions to enhance energy efficiency and flexibility at a building level while contributing to creating a sustainable energy landscape. By joining forces under the umbrella of the TES Cluster, we publish this joint newsletter to raise awareness and share project results with the hope that this collaboration will amplify our collective impact. |

The transition to electrified heating and cooling (H&C) systems powered by renewable energy sources (RES) is a key step towards achieving carbon-neutral buildings in the EU. This is a reason why it is crucial to maximize on-site RES self-consumption and increase the use of grid-supplied renewable energy when available. |
