Case: Polar Light Technologies

Swedish MicroLED scaleup Polar Light Technologies is working with experts at RISE to improve the innovation.

Inventor Per-Olof Holtz, CSO and founder of Polar Light Technologies, explains
- Using RISE's cleanroom laboratories in Kista (Electrum) and Lund (Pronano) in various ways has lead to substantial progress, and in particular the MOCVD tool at ProNano has resulted in a much higher quality of our quantum structures.

PLT CEO Oskar Fajerson is all smiles about the developments:
- We went from green to blue in just three months during 2023 which was a clear indication that the architecture for our MicroLED pyramids has the the potential to support red, the most difficult colour. It's our ambition is to reach red by the end of 2024.

This would mean that PLT supports RGB (red, green and blue) which are the base colors for building displays - a potential breakthrough in microLED's.

Take-aways from the event "Electronics goes Green"

Electronics Goes Green, a conference held in Berlin, brings together experts from across the globe to address the growing environmental challenges in electronics production, use and disposal. EGG 2024 offered a great platform for engaged discussions and collaborations aimed at creating a greener electronics industry.

Among the leaders in the industry, RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) showcased a series of innovative solutions aimed at reshaping the future of electronics sustainability.

Sensor on sensor – predictive maintenance of (power) electronics

Did you know it's possible to determine when an electronics component is about to break down?

At RISE we work hard on making electronics hardware more sustainable. For example, we have developed AI and physics-based models to predict failure in power electronic devices during power cycling - to be able to determine RUL (Remaining Useful Life).

There is a clear potential to save time and energy in the development and qualification stages of the electronics hardware, and possibly even in operation.

Physical event and free training session

Curious to know how fiber optics can be used as sensors in industry?

Course on how fiber optic sensors are used in industry, and how custom optical fibers makes a difference.

Welcome to a full day training course on fiber optic sensors at our RISE laboratories in Kista/Stockholm! If you’re a beginner, you’ll learn the basics of specialty fibers and fiber sensing. If you’re already in the field, you’ll brush up on various sensor concepts and will learn how custom fibers will enhance the sensor performance.

Hope to see you in Kista (Stockholm) on the 16th of October!

The course is given in the PhotonHub program, also offering innovation vouchers and business trainings.
