LIGHTer PhD Network has visited Austria and received exciting new inspiration to open up to international collaboration. At the beginning of autumn, a new call for industrial cross-border postdocs within LIGHTer Academy closes. For more information on how to apply, contact LIGHTer Academy, see below. The spring has been characterized by inspiring and creative internationalization work. The highlight was when LIGHTer was host to the third ELN Conference in Stockholm in June. Lightweight solutions have really gained a stronger position in Europe. Thank you for all your important contributions to the work!
We wish you a relaxing summer!

There will be an opportunity to apply for funds for further industrial border crossing projects, with a deadline early this fall. For more information on how to apply, please contact either Malin Åkermo (akermo@kth.se) or Dan Zenkert (danz@kth.se) in LIGHTer Academy.
Last winter, LIGHTer Academy had a call for funding for postdocs who work in collaborative projects between academia and industry. The five projects that received funding are of different sizes and from different industries. Here is a list of the projects:
- Influence of printability and heat treatment on the performance of additively manufactured lightweight structures in hardenable Al and Ni alloys
- Multifunctional composite materials for monitoring and shape-changing structures
- Microstructural and mechanical characterization of thin extruded coated polyethylene for lightweight packaging materials
- Prediction of anisotropy and damage development in polymer foams (PostDoc)

75 participants from 10 different European countries met in Stockholm on June 8-9 to further strengthen the European perspective and cooperation within lightweight solutions. We had some very nice days together. The documentation from the conference is now available on the conference website. The results will be further developed during the year to come and presented at the 4th Conference of ELN in Belgium in 2024. Download presentations

At the beginning of May, the LIGHTer PhD Network travelled to Linz and Vienna in Austria to visit various companies, institutes and universities with excellence in lightweight technologies. The idea of the trip was to create new contacts and collaborations between doctoral students in Europe. In the long term, we want to create a European network for PhD students in the lightweight field. Please contact Jörgen Kajberg for more information, jorgen.kajberg@ltu.se. |
