The interest in therapeutic proteins is increasing. However, proteins are fragile and needs to be stabilised against degradation to maintain their function. In this study, the influence of the excipient glycerol on the chemical degradation of protein in liquid formulations was examined. The results showed that glycerol strongly lowered the chemical degradation of a model protein by changing the tertiary structure of the protein. The results presented will help to develop better methods for the formulation and preservation of proteins. |
