PODCAST Running on OCP: Episode 13 – RISE
Steve Helvie, VP of Channel Development at OCP, posted a podcast with Jon Summers and Tor Björn Minde.

Is it time to move on from Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) as a measure of true data center efficiency? Some of the most impressive work happening in the data center industry today is coming from research institutions.

Swedish testbed for 5G-edge enable the digitalisation of industries
Telekomidag has published a news article [in Swedish] about our edge activities.

Luleå university of technology and the research instituera RISE have together created a testbed for edge in 5G networks.

- Edge can accelerate the digitalisation of Swedish industry considerably, says Tor Björn Minde who is responsible for the test bed at Rise.

Holistic cooling at the world's most efficient data center
DCD DataCenterDynamics Magazine wrote about our EU project with our partners H1Systems, EcoCooling, Fraunhofer and Boden Business agency.

An EU-funded project built a data center with a PUE of 1.0148. Can that be translated to the real world?
PROJECTS

Extended frame agreement with Swedish Space Agency
ICE Datacenter has got an extended frame agreement agreed with Swedish National Space Agency to develop the Swedish Space Data Lab further. Included is to develop the data platform with APIs and tools, the satellite images management and the data analysis tool kit.

The ITEA3 AutoDC project is ending with a final review
The aim of AutoDC was to provide an innovative design framework for autonomous data centers. An autonomous datacenter should be able to, without any human intervention, from a best effort perspective continue its operation independent of contextual interference, such as intermittent power failure, failing components, overheating etc.

Fluid simulations for an air recirculated datacenter greenhouse
Philip Rudén has been at RISE ICE Datacenter doing his master thesis project on fluid dynamic simulations for green houses connected to datacenters.

The main objective of the project was to see if it possible to use waste heat from a datacenter to heat a greenhouse, but also to see if it possible to recirculate the air from the greenhouse back in to the datacenter.
PRESENTATIONS

Tor Björn Minde, RISE
How will 5G and 6G impact the datacenter industry?
Tor Björn Minde held a keynote about 5G/6G impact on the datacenter industry at the Datacenter & Colocation Day 2021 in September in Würzburg organized by Vogel-IT.

The number of small datacenters will in cities be tenfold. Industry sites and plants will have single access mobile networks with a number of edge nodes for low latency industry applications and it will happen first.

Jon Summers, RISE
Fuel cell based micro datacenters, innovative cooling and future of energy
Jon Summers have been active the last three months!

On three different events trough July-September he has presented talks about the design of micro datacenters on biogas driven fuel cells, how to cool datacenters by using the digitally generated heat and thoughts on the energy of the future.
