Dear E-LASS member,

As previously announced, we are looking forward to an exciting E-LASS event in Las Palmas, 3-4 May, and the registration has now opened here! The whole event is organized in collaboration with the EU project FibreGy, who are sponsoring the seminar day with meals. They will also demonstrate the replacement of a steel tower with one in FRP composite on Enerocean’s semi-submersible wind power plant at the industry tour in Astican Shipyard in the morning of the 4 May. The seminar day will take place at ULPGC University of Industrial and Civil Engineering in Las Palmas and includes both presentations from the FibreGy project and presentations from our E-LASS members. We still have a few slots left, so if you are interested to give a presentation, please send an abstract (max ½ page) to e-lass@ri.se, and remember “not too commercial - not too academic”!

We are also still looking for sponsors for the dinner on the 3 May, which will come with a possibility for table-top promotion in the breaks during the seminar day. Please send an email to e-lass@ri.se if you want to take advantage of this possibility!

For your information, a few weeks ago, IMO Sub-Committee meeting SDC9 took place, where the current “Guidelines for use of fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP) within ship structures” addressing fire safety issues (MSC.1/Circ1574) were discussed. Input was submitted by CESA, based on the RAMSSES partners NMTF, Meyer Werft, Damen, and CMT. While concerns were raised by some member states, primarily USA, several member states were supporting the submission, e.g. the Netherlands, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Malta, Norway and others. After consideration, the Sub-Committee proposed to place the topic to the provisional agenda of SDC10, with a target completion year of 2025, which is a positive development in general.

Hoping to see you in Las Palmas!

Kindly//Franz, Tommy and Anna.
